The Ayre Index: Is the Next Generation Ready for AI?

November 2026

732 million young people aged 15 to 29 are growing up in a world where artificial intelligence (AI) will shape how they learn, work and build businesses. Whether it opens doors or widens gaps depends largely on how prepared their countries are to help them benefit.

That question is at the heart of the Ayre Index, a landmark study launched by Calvin Ayre through the Ayre Think Tank. It is the first comparable assessment of every Commonwealth member state, drawing on 1,128 published sources covering connectivity, skills, education, employment, enterprise and safeguards.

The findings are as encouraging as they are instructive. Young people on both sides of its readiness benchmark are eager to use AI, and the index gives every country a clear reference point for measuring progress. Its five practical priorities, from affordable access to skills that lead to real livelihoods, reflect the Calvin Ayre Foundation’s belief that opportunity begins with education.
